Note that rdma_lat is the oldest test that was written.
We wrote a new set of performance tests that are maintained:

Latency tests:
write_lat - RDMA write
read_lat - RDMA read
send_lat - Send (ud & rc)

Bandwidth test:
write_bw - RDMA write
read_bw - RDMA read
send_bw - Send (ud & rc)

All these tests are installed under <prefix>/bin. You can run them with
-h to get the usage.

Great! We were also able to reproduce the problem using rdma_lat.

We've added rdma_lat to our smoke test, so we detect this kind of
problem sooner.
