[openfabrics-ewg] Some observations on the OFED build process

We (QLogic) wanted to test out the patches we submitted for InfiniPath
for RC5. We took the RC4 tarball, and followed the instructions for
building and installing. Here are some things we noticed.

1) The OFED RC4 download has an RPM build time dependency on dv-dvel,
which is only available on SUSE systems. On RedHat systems, this is
named dv4-devel.

2) Installing on SLES10 Beta 8, there was a build failure with iscsi.

3) There doesn't seem to be anything in the OFED build process which
requires you to be root, but that requirement is there. It's generally
considered desirable not to force a user to be root to build, because it
so minimizes the opportunity to shoot off your toes.

Can we change the build process so that you are not required to be root?

4) The InfiniPath patches built fine on SLES10, but we'll be submitting
a patch tonight or tomorrow to address the remaining build problem in
RHEL4 and FC4.

Regards, Betsy
