I thought that some of the kernel modules had this, but I don't see where now. 
I think this becomes more important as the kernel and user interfaces become 
better defined and are used by more people.  But I don't think it's worth trying 
to maintain backwards compatibility in cases where an API must change in order 
to fix a serious bug.
