1. Haggai reviewed the notion of RDMA support for containers, and provided an update on the latest submission rounds in the kernel.

Pasha asked whether RDMA namespace support works with Verbs apps, that don’t use RDMACM.

Haggai answered that is such apps use TCP over IPoIB to establish their connections, then these apps can already rely on the name-spaces that are associated with the corresponding IPoIB interfaces. The resulting Verbs level objects (e.g.,
QPs) are not associated with name spaces in any case.

Bill asked if RDMA namespaces work with VFs. Haggai mentioned that in terms of isolation, namespaces and cgroups provide all that is needed and dedicating a PCI function for each container is not necessary. However, there could be cases
where this makes sense, for example, to leverage features that are currently only available for VFs.

Liran added that another use case is deploying containers within VMs. In this case, SRIOV VFs would be passed through to VMs, and containers running within these VMs can benefit from RDMA container support over these VFs.

Bernard asked whether the proposed approach works for iWARP. Haggai answered that the existing code addresses InfiniBand ServiceIDs and port spaces, which are not relevant to iWARP. However, the iWARP CM code could be extended similarly.
