In the past weeks xalex from Mellanox has made a lot of work on fixing the compiler problems on windows server 2008. Currently the code can be compiled with the new compiler and the binaries are under test. Once the tests will pass we will publish the patches to the forum (hopefully next week). KMDF is currently optional and most existing drivers in the market are not KMDF drivers. New drivers of course should be written using KMDF (assuming this is possibale). Using dpinst instead of devmon shouldn't also be a problem. Although Mx may believe they are nearly ready, those down stream from MX have not seen any changes nor has anyone else claimed to be Server 2008 ready. The point being - I doubt seriously there will be sufficient time for others, once Mx releases their changes, to recover from the Server 2008 changes and make release dates; not to mention eval time on the entire system! My suggestion is to be very concerned about release quality and intelligent about the situation that far too many global changes have occurred without adequate testing. Make the last WinOF 1.x release without Server 2008 support in April, then when Server 2008 is truly ready, make the WinOF 2.0 release; ETA June. The OFA-WWG working charter w.r.t. release dates was agreed upon as "Do the 'right' thing". It will be a WWG group decision. > > Thanks > Tzachi > > >> -----Original Message----- >> From: wwg-bounces at lists.openfabrics.org >> [mailto:wwg-bounces at lists.openfabrics.org] On Behalf Of Smith, Stan >> Sent: Tuesday, March 11, 2008 6:40 PM >> To: wwg at lists.openfabrics.org >> Subject: [Wwg] OFA - Window Working Group, When: Tue Apr 01, >> 2008,09:00 AM - 11:00 AM US Pacific Daylight Time >> >> What: OFA - Window Working Group >> When: Tue Apr 01, 2008, 09:00 AM - 11:00 AM US Pacific Time >> Where: 916-356-2663, (inside Intel) 8-356-2663 >> Bridge: 4 >> Passcode: 2307800 >> >> Agenda >> ------ >> >> Update on PXE Boot-over-InfiniBand work (Mx & MS). >> >> Bugzilla bug reporting - is it working? >> >> IPoIB partitioning support - SVN deployment estimates in >> early March; Where is it? >> >> Why Server 2008 support should _not_ be a part of WinOF 1.1 release. >> (Not an April Fool's joke (discussion points) >> Server 2008 support far larger task than most believed... >> Mx non-standard approach to loading drivers; need to >> follow MS prescribed approach (KMDF). >> Entirely new build environment (WDK vs. DDK).
