I let it default to /usr/local/lib for the libraries and /usr/local/bin
for the binary.

I set /etc/ld.so.conf to include /usr/local/lib in the path. 

Must have been some makefile changes or such between the trunk version
and the 1.0 version since if I build the trunk the same way, it works
just fine.
