GET IN ON THE ACTION FOR SC11
The IBTA & OFA will be jointly hosting a 20x20 booth at SC11 in Seattle,
November 12-18 (booth #6006 - see online floor plan
<http://iebms.heiexpo.com/sc/SC11Level6.pdf> ). We are asking that all IBTA
& OFA member companies interested in participating in the booth send e-mail
to press at openfabrics.org. Deadline for sponsorship payment ($3,000 per
company) is March 1. We need to determine the number of booth sponsors now
in order to make key decisions regarding our presence at the show.
Booth sponsorship includes a host of marketing opportunities including: your
corporate logo on booth signage and promotional materials, presentation
slots in our booth theater, demo space, opportunity to distribute your
corporate materials, and access to booth leads.
Help us build on our success from SC10; sign on to sponsor now and increase
your company's planned presence for the show.

through the Exascale barrier
http://www.openfabrics.org/newsletter/2011-Feb/bullet_wht.gifDefining OFED
for the Cloud
http://www.openfabrics.org/newsletter/2011-Feb/bullet_wht.gifEnabling
unprecedented efficiencies
The opening keynote, "Exploring the use of Open Fabrics inside the Cloud"
will be presented by Mike Marty, senior software engineer at Google. Other
headliners include Stephen Poole, Oak Ridge National Laboratory; Stewart
Tate, IBM; and Addison Snell, Intersect360 Research.
The workshop is open to anyone with the desire to provide collaborative
input into the direction and mechanics of OFED; non-OFA members welcome.
Online registration <http://www.openfabrics.org/workshop> is now open and
until February 28 we have early bird pricing of $495 per person. More
information on hotel, pricing and registration is available at:
www.openfabrics.org/workshop.
If you are an OFA member and planning to attend the event, we encourage you
to promote your involvement. Please post the event on your website and
include a mention in your corporate social media updates (LinkedIn, Twitter,
Facebook, etc.).

NEXT RDMA TRAINING COURSE SCHEDULED: MARCH 16-17, 2011
The next course in our RDMA training series has been scheduled for March
16-17, 2011. Writing Application Programs for RDMA using OFA Software will
take place at UNH-IOL (only 1:15 from Boston) and will provide application
developers with classroom instruction and hands-on experience coding
applications directly to the Verbs API using OFED and related software
tools. More information and registration is available online
<http://www.openfabrics.org/training/index.html> .

INTEROPERABILITY WORKING GROUP UPDATE
The charter of Interoperability Working Group (IWG) is to define, develop,
execute and contribute to the OpenFabrics Software repository a
comprehensive suite of tests and documents for testing the interoperability
of devices using OFED, including Upper Level Protocols, Application Program
Interfaces and applications utilizing various RDMA transports. The IWG has
partnered with the University of New Hampshire's InterOperability Lab
(UNH-IOL <http://www.iol.unh.edu/services/testing/ofa/index.php> ) to
develop and execute the OpenFabrics Interoperability Logo Program (OFILP),
which is the culmination of the work of the IWG.
The goals of the OFILP are to empower end users so they have a basis for
validating interoperability across vendor products using various versions of
the OFA Software including OFED for Linux and OFED for Windows. The program
allows vendors to bring their products to regular interoperability test
events to ensure they meet the necessary interoperability requirements.
Objectives for the IWG and OFILP for 2011:
http://www.openfabrics.org/newsletter/2011-Feb/bullet_wht.gif
Transition to an updated hardware platform provided by Intel for the
cluster's head-node. This will allow us to further develop the Intel Cluster
Ready (ICR) integration into the OFILP. The long term goal of the OFA/ICR
collaboration with UNH-IOL is to develop a process to build consistent
binary software packages (RPMs) of the OFA source distribution, testing it
on an ICR cluster and making that RPM available for download.
http://www.openfabrics.org/newsletter/2011-Feb/bullet_wht.gif
Update the test suite automation to run in a parallel environment which will
decrease execution time and allow more testing in a shorter period of time.
http://www.openfabrics.org/newsletter/2011-Feb/bullet_wht.gif
Create a dynamic cluster status web page for quick access to current
information regarding the cluster availability.
http://www.openfabrics.org/newsletter/2011-Feb/bullet_wht.gif
Update LDAP schema to allow for more service integration, specifically web
and VPN access control. Also migrate to OpenVPN which will increase security
and allow users to control their own access to the cluster via the Internet.
http://www.openfabrics.org/newsletter/2011-Feb/bullet_wht.gif
Dynamically detect RDMA adaptors and burn current firmware during reinstall.
This will ensure that any new devices added to the cluster are running the
latest firmware provided by the manufacturers, further demonstrating
interoperability.
http://www.openfabrics.org/newsletter/2011-Feb/bullet_wht.gif
Include testing for new products in 2011, specifically the DDN 40 Gb/s SRP
target, new iWARP adapters and the anticipated FDR and EDR products being
unveiled by the IBTA community
<http://www.infinibandta.org/content/pages.php?pg=technology_overview> .
Participate in the IWG to help shape the Logo Program. For more information,
please contact: interop-wg at openfabrics.org

WINDOWS WORKING GROUP UPDATE
The Windows Working Group is actively working on the next release of OFED
for Windows. The most current version, winOFED 2.3, was released December
28, 2010. The next version, winOFED 3.0, will include ROCE and IPoIB-CM and
is trending towards a Q3'11 release.

11TH OFA INTEROPERABILITY VALIDATION EVENT: APRIL 11-15, 2011
The 11th OFA Interoperability Validation Event
<http://www.iol.unh.edu/services/testing/ofa/events/invitation_2011-04.php>
will be held April 11-15, 2011 at UNH-IOL. The event is designed to test the
OFED software stack and RDMA hardware devices including InfiniBand, iWARP
and RoCE adapters and switches. The event is preceded by IBTA Plugfest 19
<http://www.infinibandta.org/content/pages.php?pg=events_plugfest> , taking
place April 4-8, 2011 also at UNH-IOL. The IBTA Plugfest will include the
first alpha testing of FDR cables which are designed to run at 14 Gb/s.
For more information on the OFA Interoperability Validation Event and to
register, please visit the UNH-IOL website
