Do we want to do this with changes that are committed too or only
important ones ?
My next comments may be stating the obvious but...

Some care will need to be done in terms of this. For example, spec files
may have different versions, etc.

They may diverge for other reasons like additional functionality added
to the trunk and not to 1.0.
