Isn't the usual way to first put out an RFC indicating you intend on
doing this to solicit feedback as others may be using/depending on the
trunk version ?

Just wondering what the rush was to replace the existing trunk code with
some less capable and more buggy ? Should this have waited until that
was not the case ?
