I looked at this, but the API to the library changed in such a way that it's 
difficult to provide support for older kernel ABI versions with the updated 
userspace APIs.  This is in part because older kernel components did not provide 
connection parameters as part of their events.

I'm definitely for trying to support older ABIs, I just don't see a good way to 
do so.
