I've mentioned this as a possibility before.  I guess it really comes
down to a tradeoff between how much it helps vs. how much it
complicates the interface and the implementation.  ie if it is a lot
of cruft that gives a small benefit to only a few apps, then I'm not
too interested; if it can be done cleanly and gives a big benefit,
then I'm all for it.
