I don't recommend going for co-existence. That is a hard road to take
upstream. Incrementally augment & replace is usually a much easier
task.

There is a pretty clear need kernel side for someone to tackle the
memory registration api mess. If libfabric ideas can clean that up
then it is a great place to start incrementally.
