This is a limitation of iser patches for SLES10 - it modifies kernel sources
so, in particular, you must build as root.
If you like to avoid changing kernel sources, disable iser in build.

It would have been nice if iser was changed to build without
touching kernel sources.
There's not much Vlad can do here at this point.
