[ewg] Is ofed-3.5 and 1.5.4.1 compatible?

Hello all,

I asked one of my engineers to do a few basic interoperability tests and
here is what he reported:

I re-installed OFED-1.5.4.1 on one system and had OFED-3.5 on another and
tried ping; sftp, ib_read_bw; ssh between the two systems. They all seem to
work without a problem.

This is far from exhaustive and I am sure there are features in 3.5 that are
not supported in 1.5.4.1. But certainly IPoIB and basic RDMA operations seem
to work well as did the OpenSM.

Verbs are not the same since in 1.5.4.1 we had XRC support in user space.
Regarding protocols - IPoIB should be the same Not sure if it was tested.

Maybe Rupert can tell

Hi,

Would it work if I connect 1.5.4.1 nodes and 3.5 nodes to same fabrics?
Is there any change at protocol level that may break compatibility?
