It sounds like you just want to use the OpenIB support that is part of
the downloaded kernel. Correct? If so, just rebuild the kernel. In the
config phase, specify "InfiniBand support" under "Device Drivers". You
will need "Mellanox HCA support", and "IP-over-InfiniBand support".

If you alias ib0 and ib1 to ib_ipoib in the /etc/modprobe.conf, and
configure the ib0 and ib1 interfaces, the drivers should load at
boottime (assuming you have a Mellanox HCA).

If you want the latest OpenIB support, then you want to do what Robert
Walsh suggested, and replace the drivers/infiniband tree in the 2.6.12
source with the latest gen2/trunk/src/linux-kernel/infiniband
downloaded from svn.
