hi roland,  these fix a long-sought bug with
ipath hardware and the MVAPICH over verbs 
software stack and a use after free bug.
i'd like to squeeze this in to 2.6.24 if
there's still a chance...

these changes are avail for git pull from (note
the new branch name for 2.6.24):
