This is exactly what I found. But where the sm key in the mad is filled?
I could not find this either.

There isn't an SA Key field that I'm aware of. A quick grep of the
linux code
shows that it gets compared against the SM Key of a received MAD. I'm
not aware
of any code outside of opensm or the saquery diag that sets this field.
