[Users] FW: FW: Building OFA OFED-3.18-2 on Redhat 6.8

Amiya,

We discussed support for 6.8 in the OFA EWG meeting today and decided it
would be too difficult to backport 4.8 to any RHEL 6.x release. So our plans
are to work on a 3.18-3 release which will pick up 6.8 for you and then we
will add RHEL 7.3 and SLES 12 SP2 to OFED 4.8.

Thanks

Rupert

Rupert,

Thanks again for your response and the document!
Unfortunately, our current config management is customized for RHEL-6 and
would be difficult to migrate to RHEL-7 soon. I shall try the 4.8 release
for our future clusters.

Best regards,
Amiya

Amiya,

1. To my knowledge, there are no immediate plans to support 6.8 in
either OFED 3.18-x or OFED 4.8. But I will bring this up in the EWG Meeting
on 12/5/2016.

2. OFED 4.8 is in daily build status which means that we are working on
this project and we are still some time away from producing a Release
Candidate (RC) with full support for the listed distros and user packages.
There are still some backports that have not been completed for RHEL 7.2 for
example. So if you want to experiment with either 3.18-2 or 4.8, your best
bet is to setup a test system with one of the Distros that we currently
support. Our goal for 4.8 is to get everything working for the supported
Distros. After that work is complete we would begin adding support for RHEL
6.8 or RHEL 7.3 for example assuming we agree that 6.8 is worth the effort.
So even if we decide to add support, my guess is that it will not be until
sometime in Q1 2017.

I have added a short little document that may help you with the OFED 4.8
daily build if you want to experiment with 7.2.

Thanks and have fun,

Rupert

Rupert/Aleksandr,

Thank you very much for the response!

I did notice the release notes earlier and was hoping that someone had a
patch to make things work. I think it would benefit several in the community
if OFED supports latest RHEL-6.x release.

Is there any plan to support RHEL-6.8 in OFED-4.8 release? I tried to build
the daily version but that didn't work eithergin-left:0in; font-size:12.0pt;

Hi,

This is probably because 3.18-2 did not have backports for RHEL 6.8 since
3.18-2 was released in July (see attached release notes). I will bring this
issue up in the next EWG meeting to see if we want to consider support for
6.8 with another 3.18-xx release.

Amiya,
I had the same issue - errors while building OFED-3.18-2 on REHL 6.8. I
switched to OFED-3.18-2 on RHEL 6.7 and was able to build without any
issues.

I would be curious to know if you manage to build OFED-3.18-2 on REHL 6.8.

Thank you,

Hi,

I am trying to build OFA OFED drivers on Redhat-6.8 (Kernel 2.6.32.642) but
encountering various errors pasted below. I have tried building both
"--with-xeon-phi" and without -- but faced same errors.

If anyone has experience building OFED on Kernel-2.6.32.642, I would
appreciate some guidance. If it is not compatible, can someone suggest me a
compatible OFED driver?
