Also FYI, we see build failures in RHEL7.4 with below commits of compat tree. Therefore the above commits are tested by reverting below 2 commits:

Commits below address real issues and should not be reverted. Also, these commits are relevant for 4.17 kernel only and do not change anything for other kernels as CONFIG_COMPAT_RDMA is set for all kernels except 4.17.
So, your backports should work with these commits present.
Start with clean build environment if you still have issues.
